Fresh food refers to food that is unprocessed and is generally produced without chemicals or other additives and includes fruits, vegetables, and meats. When foods are not processed, they are often higher in vitamins and other nutrients. In addition, there are many health benefits associated with eating unprocessed foods. U.S. consumers are eating fresh food for a multitude of health reasons, predominantly to feel good and for overall energy. The online fresh food market has seen growth in all product categories in recent years. Perishable products had the largest increase, with just under 25 percent more online sales in 2022.
Walmart and Costco are the two leading grocery delivery services in the United States as 2022. Walmart has over 90 percent brand awareness. Amazon Fresh is also among the top grocery delivery services and has a brand awareness of about 78 percent. Actual usage is significantly lower however. Only about 32 percent of U.S. consumers use Amazon Fresh as a grocery delivery service.
