A breakdown of the consumer expenditure figures show that consumers in higher income groups spend more on gardening than any other income group in the UK. Those in the highest ten percent spent a weekly average of 4.3 British pounds in 2024. Overall, the average amount spent across all UK households was much lower than this, at 3.1 British pounds. Individuals from Wales were found to spend the most on gardening, around 3.9 British pounds per week in 2023.Garden retail
The United Kingdom has many stores that specialize in the retail sales of plants, flowers, gardening equipment, and pet foods. The number of such stores has been increasing over the last decade. According to current numbers, there were over seven thousand stores in the UK in 2023, whereas in 2009 there were nearly 1,500 less. Today, some of the UK’s leading gardening retail stores are also the most profitable home improvement retail brands worldwide. Kingfisher plc, which owns B&Q, is one of them. B&Q runs stores both in the UK and Ireland, and the sales value generated from these operations was 3.8 billion British pounds in the financial year 2024/25.While the revenue of the lawn and garden market in the United Kingdom will not see such a massive growing tendency as the worldwide market, nonetheless it will keep steadily increasing until the end of the decade.
