Flower trade
The American flower and plant exporting business generated almost 480 million U.S. dollars in 2024, way behind its import trade with over four billion U.S. dollars. While export figures produced only slight growth in the past 14 years, the import of flowers to the United States increased by almost 2.5 times compared to 2010. And who is able to supply the U.S. market? Colombia was the number one importer in 2024, trading two times more than Canada, the second on the list. Close behind, another South American country, Ecuador imported plants worth of 723 million U.S. dollars in the same year.Roses are red…
…violets are blue, and sales figures for flowers grew. This can be concluded from recent holiday-themed surveys conducted in the U.S. In 2025, Americans planned to spend a grand sum of 3.2 billion U.S. dollars on flowers for Mother’s Day. This was the highest figure since 2007. Other surveys reveal that mothers are not the only ones inspiring Americans to buy a bouquet of roses - Cupid appears to stir up some flower shopping incentive as well. When it comes to flower expenses for Valentine’s Day, roughly 2.5 billion U.S. dollars were spent in 2025.As figures show growing tendencies in the United States, the global lawn and garden market is expected to experience similar increase, predicted to reach over 400 billion U.S. dollars by 2029.
