Humans have been grilling and barbecuing for millennia and while people from all over the world continue the tradition today, people in the U.S. are particularly fond of it. According to Statista’s worldwide survey, a fifth of Americans regularly barbecued in 2024. The classic American barbecue typically involves the grilling of steaks, burgers, and hot dogs. Recent survey data shows that burgers were the most popular choice of meat, with over 70 percent of American consumers citing it as their favorite grilled meat.
As prices increase, the cost of barbecuing is also likely to keep rising in the upcoming years, however, it is unlikely to cause a decline in barbecuing among American consumers.

The barbecue and grill market is not merely a domestic market in the United States. When looking at the U.S. trade balance of domestic cooking devices including barbecues and grills, it is apparent that the import value far exceeds the export. In fact, the United States imported approximately 3.9 billion U.S. dollars of stoves, cookers, grills, and barbecues in 2024, whereas the export value was roughly 267 million U.S. dollars. Besides trade, the United States also dominated the global revenue of the grills and roasters market in 2024. Over 60 percent of the worldwide revenue accounted to the American market, with more than four billion U.S. dollars in revenue.On the grill

Fish or shrimp are also popular protein sources to roast, and the average retail price of seafood amounted to over 9.2 U.S. dollars in 2024, well above beef, pork, or chicken. The average price of tomato ketchup reached almost 3.5 U.S. dollar in the same year, and is expected to increase, but stay well below four dollars in the next few years.
