To some, the word workwear might refer to office-appropriate attire or clothing one wears to their workplace, however, in terms of fashion it takes on a whole new meaning. Hailing from clothing once made for manual workers such as carpenters, mechanics, builders and the like, the brands behind the garb now cater to a much different and more fashion-forward audience. With lines often including flannel shirts, robust canvas jackets, and baggy yet durable trousers, brands such as Carhartt, Dickies, and Levi’s just to name a few have made their way onto the streetwear scene, driving interest particularly, but not exclusively amongst young men.
Within fashion, trends are often influenced by external factors. In particular, before social media many derived fashion inspirations from different professions and incorporated uniforms into their urban lifestyle, a practice that still lives on today.

A standout amongst other casual apparel and footwear companies, VF Corporation has been around since 1899, acquiring denim manufacturers Lee and Wrangler almost a century later. Both companies are well known for their durable, practical denim. One particularly popular workwear brand is Dickies, also owned by VF Corporation. Out of the 9.5 billion, around 540 million U.S. dollars was generated by Dickies in 2025. Rivalled to their jeans, Levi’s is another staple in both street- and workwear, generating a revenue of over 6.3 billion U.S. dollars in 2024.Workwear shoes
Workwear once encompassed the entirety of a manual worker’s wardrobe, from robust outerwear to sturdy footwear made for any kind of weather to ensure comfort throughout the workday. One such brand is Timberland, the producer of the well-known yellow boots which once associated with blue collar work, came to have significant value in urban inner cities and even among famous rappers in the 1990s. In 2025, the company had a revenue of 1.6 billion U.S. dollars.
